Why We Die

Chronic Pain vs. Acute Pain

Acute pain is the response to an injury, and lasts until the injury is healed. Chronic pain persists, sometimes long after the injury has healed. In some cases, the injury never heals, causing an almost constant state of pain.

Tens of millions of Americans suffer from chronic pain ~ pain that lasts longer than six months. Chronic pain can be mild or excruciating, episodic or continuous, merely inconvenient or totally incapacitating. With chronic pain, signals of pain remain active in the nervous system for weeks, months, or even years. This can take both a physical and emotional toll on a person. Many people live with pain every day. In fact, one in ten Americans is expected to suffer from chronic pain at some point in their life. If you are reading this, you may have chronic pain or know someone who does. Doctors routinely prescribe medications and physical therapy to treat chronic pain. However, because pain is a subjective experience, the same treatment does not work for everybody.

Did you know….. Chronic pain causes a decrease in brain volume of 10% a year!

The longer you have a CHRONIC CONDITION the faster your brain dies. The Journal of Neuroscience reports that the McGill University Center for Research on pain has found; “The longer the individual has had fibromyalgia, the greater the gray matter loss, with each year of fibromyalgia being equivalent to 9.5 times the loss in normal aging”. In addition it is estimated that 30-60% of patients diagnosed with Fibromyalgia become disabled to the degree they cannot remain gainfully employed…and that is with the myriad of medications prescribed.

Chronic Conditions DO NOT get better by themselves… and the “Normal Medical Approach” is to help ACUTE care…. NOT CHRONIC CARE
